Bookmovie: Pre-production rigging, camera operation, gaffing, editing, motion graphics, audio mix, color mix.
Bookmovie’s Blake and DP Mike Anderson built a custom light box to be rigged over the talent, giving a nice even top light for the conversation. We pivoted at one point in pre-production to include individual interviews in the piece, which ended up adding another layer of intimacy to a delicate story.
We came up with a creative solution for the title card by pulling inspiration from the set design lighting. Megan then animated the title card text to feel integrated into the moving prisms and applied a matching focus shift. All subsequent graphics followed suit, using a warm, glowing effect to tie the lightbulb across the entire piece.

Gitlab
DETAILS
Gitlab builds software development tools, and they’re proudly transparent in how they operate. Here, Gitlab explains their value structure.
ROLES
Bookmovie: Camera operation, gaffing, editing, storyboarded design and motion graphics, audio mix, color mix.
It’s always a challenge to work on the road, and this project proved to have its own difficulties. We shot in a beautiful, natural-lit studio in San Francisco. However, we had to constantly and diligently adjust our lighting to account for alternating cloudy and clear skies throughout the day. Production is never set-it-and-forget-it!
Elevated above a simple talking-head video, the graphics keep the viewer engaged while also clearly delineating each value. Megan designed a look and feel that is playful but not silly and adheres to Gitlab’s established brand design.

Jarritos
DETAILS
Fortnight Collective’s “Talk the Talk” campaign for Jarritos US brings the bold flavors and authentic spirit of Jarritos to life through a playful animated duo: a taco and a Jarritos bottle.
ROLES
Bookmovie: Character design and animation.
First things first, the cast of characters needed to come to life in the design stage. Megan designed unique eyes, eyebrows, and mouths for 6 main characters and a further 11 band members for the ending mnemonic.
The animation stage involved utilizing 15 mouth-states to bring the characters’ dialogue to life, as well as adding details to the eyelids, pupils, and eyebrows to convey a range of expressions. These characters smile, smirk, roll their eyes, and sing; the key-framing for this project was robust to say the least! Oh, and add in a little motion tracking to really marry the faces to the scenes.
This project was an all-time favorite animation and design experience!
